Nanfang Hospital was founded in 1941 and was transferred to Guangdong Province with the First Military Medical University in August 2004. It is the first affiliated hospital and the first clinical medical college of Southern Medical University (formerly the First Military Medical University). It is a large-scale comprehensive tertiary hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and preventive health care, and the first batch of top 100 hospitals in the country.
On December 4, 2018, it was announced by the National Health Commission as the first batch of cancer multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment pilot hospitals.
On November 20, 2020, it was named the 6th National Civilized Unit by the Central Civilization Committee.
In August 2021, the Health Management Department of Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University was selected as the 20th National Youth Civilization.
